Lip Filler Boca Raton: The Ten Products Actually Approved for Lips
The lip filler Boca Raton patients are offered is usually one of a short list of brand names, and not every filler is approved for lips. Ten products are — each having run a lip-specific trial and earned a lip-specific FDA indication. Knowing which those are, and how they differ, is most of what separates a natural result from an obvious one.
Lip augmentation in the United States is performed with hyaluronic acid fillers, and ten products hold an FDA approval naming lip augmentation specifically. They are not interchangeable: they differ in gel firmness, in how much volume they add, and in whether they are also approved for the fine lines around the mouth.
Published results run to about a year. At roughly twelve months the pivotal trials record Juvéderm Ultra XC at 56.4%, Volbella XC at 61.8% and Restylane Kysse at 60% of participants still meeting the responder threshold. Satisfaction runs higher than the scales do — on Kysse, patient-reported satisfaction with their lips rose from 28.1 at baseline to 83.3 at week eight.
Lip filler Boca Raton: the ten products FDA-approved for lips
Anyone researching lip filler in Boca Raton will be shown a short list of brand names. A filler being approved does not mean it is approved for lips. The FDA grants indications area by area, and lips have their own. Searching the premarket approval database for every record whose approval statement names lip augmentation returns ten products. This is the complete list as of September 2026.
| Product | Approved | Also approved for | Minimum age |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restylane Injectable Gel | 11 Oct 2011 | Facial wrinkles and folds | 21 |
| Restylane-L | 30 Aug 2012 | Facial wrinkles and folds | 21 |
| Restylane Silk | 13 Jun 2014 | Perioral rhytids | 21 |
| Juvéderm Ultra XC | 30 Sep 2015 | Facial wrinkles and folds | 21 |
| Juvéderm Volbella XC | 31 May 2016 | Perioral rhytids | 21 |
| Restylane Kysse | 26 Mar 2020 | Upper perioral rhytids | 21 |
| Revanesse Lips+ | 21 Sep 2020 | — | 22 |
| RHA 3 | 27 Oct 2023 | Dynamic wrinkles and folds | 22 |
| RHA 3 Mepi | 17 Jan 2025 | — | 22 |
| Belotero Intense (+) Lidocaine | 9 Jul 2026 | — | 21 |
The third column is the one that shapes a consultation. If your concern is volume, several products do that well. If it is the fine vertical lines above the lip, the products approved for perioral rhytids — Restylane Silk, Volbella XC and Kysse — were trialled against exactly that complaint. Restylane Kysse’s trial recorded 94% of participants improved on the upper perioral line scale at week eight, and 83% still improved at week 48. Those are different problems needing different gels, and treating them as one is how lips end up looking done rather than better.
One point of accuracy that is widely got wrong: minimum age is part of the approved indication and is not uniform. Revanesse Lips+, RHA 3 and RHA 3 Mepi are approved for 22 and over; the rest for 21 and over.
How long lip results held in the approval trials
Lip trials are unusually well documented, and they tell a consistent story: a strong early result that softens gradually across the first year. Every figure below is a responder rate — the proportion still showing at least a one-grade improvement on a lip fullness scale, judged by a blinded evaluator.
| Product | Early result | ~6 months | ~12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Juvéderm Ultra XC | 79.1% at month 3 | 80.5% (95/118) | 56.4% (57/101) |
| Juvéderm Volbella XC | 80.3% at month 3 | 71.1% (106/149) | 61.8% (76/123) |
| Restylane Kysse | 88% at week 8 | 77% at week 24 | 60% at week 48 |
| Belotero Intense (+) | 91.1% at week 8 | 78.8% at week 24 | 48.7% at week 48 |
Read that as a planning tool rather than a league table. The products were trialled against different comparators on different scales, so cross-product comparison is not strictly valid. What is consistent across all four is the shape: around 80–90% of patients see a clear result early, roughly three-quarters still do at six months, and somewhere between a half and two-thirds at a year. Most patients who like their result come back somewhere in the second half of that curve rather than waiting for it to disappear.
Satisfaction data tracks better than the scales. On Restylane Kysse, patient-reported satisfaction with their lips rose from 28.1 at baseline to 83.3 at week eight, and was still 66.3 at week 48 — well above where it started, long after the responder curve has come down. Retreatment is also easier than the first time: after a second Kysse treatment, 88% of participants reported no adverse events at all, and on Volbella related events fell from 50% after the first treatment to 13.7% after the second.
What the first two weeks actually look like
Lips swell more than anywhere else on the face, and the trial data is unambiguous about it. Across the pivotal studies, 97–99% of participants reported some injection-site response — swelling in about 90%, tenderness and bruising in the high eighties, and small lumps or bumps in about 84%. These are not complications. They are the expected two-week course of a lip treatment, and every approved product reports them at similar rates.
They also resolve quickly. On Restylane Kysse the median duration of a treatment-related event was 13.5 days, and 50.7% of injection-site reactions had settled within two weeks. Severity was overwhelmingly mild: 95.8% of events mild, none severe, and no treatment-related serious adverse events at all in that trial.
The practical advice this leads to. Do not book lip treatment in the week before an event, a photograph or a wedding. Two to three weeks of clearance is the sensible margin, and a good injector will tell you that before taking the booking rather than after. If small firm areas appear in the first fortnight, the documented first response is usually reassurance and time — most settle on their own.
How a natural lip result is actually achieved
The products are not what make lips look overdone; volume and proportion are. The approved indications distinguish between the vermillion body, the vermillion border and the oral commissures — the body of the lip, its outline, and the corners — because they are separate structures that age separately and need different handling. RHA 3’s 2023 approval names all three explicitly.
That granularity is the whole craft. A lip that has lost definition needs border work, not volume. A lip that has turned down at the corners needs the commissures addressed, and adding body volume will make it look worse. Most patients who dislike their lip filler were given volume when they needed structure, and the correction is usually less product rather than more.
The other half is restraint over time. Lip tissue is forgiving but it does respond to what is repeatedly put into it, and the most natural results generally come from conservative treatment at sensible intervals rather than topping up whenever the result softens. Anyone who tells you the answer to a lip you are unhappy with is another syringe is not planning your face, they are selling product.
Because lip filler is hyaluronic acid, there is also a route back. HA can usually be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which makes lips the most adjustable area on the face — a genuine reassurance for a first treatment, and the reason it is worth starting conservatively and building.
Frequently asked questions
How long does lip filler last?
About a year, product depending. At roughly twelve months the pivotal trials record Juvéderm Ultra XC at 56.4%, Volbella XC at 61.8%, Restylane Kysse at 60% and Belotero Intense (+) at 48.7% of participants still meeting the responder threshold. No lip product has FDA trial data beyond about twelve months. Sources 2 to 5.
Which lip filler is best?
They were trialled separately against different comparators, so there is no valid ranking. The useful question is what you are treating. For volume, several work well. For the fine lines above the lip, the products approved for perioral rhytids — Restylane Silk, Volbella XC and Kysse — were trialled against exactly that. Source 1.
How swollen will my lips be?
Noticeably, for about two weeks. Across the pivotal trials 97–99% of participants reported some injection-site response, with swelling in around 90%. On Restylane Kysse the median duration was 13.5 days and 95.8% of events were mild. Leave two to three weeks before any event. Sources 3 and 4.
Can lip filler be dissolved?
Usually, yes. All ten lip-approved products are hyaluronic acid, which can be broken down with hyaluronidase. That use is off-label and occasionally needs a second session, but it makes lips the most adjustable area on the face, and it is why starting conservatively is good practice. Source 6.
Is there a minimum age for lip filler?
Yes, and it differs by product because it is written into the approved indication. Revanesse Lips+, RHA 3 and RHA 3 Mepi are approved for adults 22 and over. The Restylane, Juvéderm and Belotero lip products are approved for 21 and over. Source 1.
Does the second treatment feel like the first?
Generally it is easier. After a second Restylane Kysse treatment 88% of participants reported no adverse events at all, and on Volbella XC related events fell from 50% after the first treatment to 13.7% after the second. Sources 3 and 4.
Sources and how this page was built
The product list was produced by querying the FDA premarket approval database for every record whose approval statement names lip augmentation, on 26 September 2026. Duration and adverse-event figures come from each product’s Summary of Safety and Effectiveness Data filed with the FDA. Responder rates are labelled as such and shown with denominators where the source publishes them.

Why patients choose Brazelia MedSpa
Lips are the treatment patients are most nervous about, and with reason — it is the one result everybody sees. That is exactly why this page gives you the responder curves and the two-week swelling figures instead of a before-and-after gallery. A clinic that tells you your lips will be swollen for a fortnight before you book is a clinic that is planning your result rather than closing a sale.
Lip treatment at Brazelia MedSpa is performed by Khali Reed, CRNA, APRN, a master injector her patients know as the Facial Architect, working under the medical direction of Dr. Herbert R. Slavin, MD, in the practice’s Boca Raton location. Lips reward a conservative, structural eye more than almost any other area, and that is the approach here: border and proportion before volume, and less product rather than more.
Brazelia MedSpa has treated patients from the same address in downtown Boca Raton for 18 years, near Mizner Park, and serves patients across South Florida, from Delray Beach and Boynton Beach to Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale. In a field where med spas open and close within a season, staying in one place that long is its own kind of evidence. Patients rate the practice 4.5 out of 5 across 24 Google reviews.
A face is also rarely treated as just a face here. Because Brazelia MedSpa runs hormone, metabolic, skin and regenerative programmes under one roof, a treatment plan can take account of what else is going on — skin quality, weight change, hormonal shifts — instead of being sold in isolation. Where that is relevant to you it comes up at the consultation. Where it is not, nobody raises it.
New patients start with a consultation, and nothing is treated on a first visit unless you want it to be. You will hear what the approved labelling actually supports before you hear what it costs.
This page describes what published labels, regulatory records and peer-reviewed research report about these treatments. It is general health information, not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for a consultation. Whether any treatment is appropriate for you is a clinical judgement that depends on your history and examination.
